I've been working on a few new things! A while ago, I shared with you that I had enrolled in a course that would help me gain confidence at newslettering. Was this another example of me undermining my own confidence in something despite having years of experience in it? (Do you do that, too?) Not quite. While the art of writing doesn't change over time, the tools and landscape do. It was helpful to learn about how newsletters serve to connect with one's community in today's hypercompetitive attention economy. I told you I was looking to determine my newsletter's niche. This was a challenge for me, as a generalist with a bit of a rebellious streak who has always felt distinctly un-niche-able. Yet, here I am today presenting you with something more closely resembling a niche for this content stream. I hope you like it! Exciety and anxcitedness ensue. The new Cultivate Your Weirdness is all about stories As a business builder and/or career changer who identifies as "weird," you've likely spent your whole life second-guessing yourself due to others not quite understanding you, belittling your beautiful dreams, and trying to quiet the powerful voice inside you. That's why I'm bringing you stories of fellow weirdos who have made career changes and built businesses and are thriving while being their authentic selves. They have been exactly where you are and made it through, though it may not have been easy. But an incredible future awaited them on the other side. There are three different interview formats: two for sharing the vulnerable moments behind the success, and one for receiving coaching around your biggest blockers. If you or someone you know would like to participate in an interview, please apply! As part of the interview, you'll have an opportunity to share whatever you're most excited about in your work now. I can't wait to share the cool things you're doing! New coloring pages! If you've been feeling not anxcited but rather full on existentially anxious about the election, I'm right there with you. Vote, volunteer, involve, but also rest and take care of yourself. Here's a little poem I wrote: action alleviates anxiety rest replenishes resolve both bring balance This poem is just one of three coloring pages I've created featuring my original art and words. New subscribers to my creator profile will receive these upon signing up. 👻 Boo! Ghosts aren't just for Halloween My coaching and consulting offerings have expanded to include custom content creation and ghostwriting for creators and personal brand builders. If you or someone you know could use help organizing or planning your content, writing your content, or finding your voice, respond to this email and let me know! Events There are no public events on my calendar at the moment, but if you're interested in inviting me to give a virtual talk, workshop or teambuilding event such as trivia for your organization, please respond to this email and let's chat! I am open for Q1 of next year with some very limited dates left this quarter as well. Closing thoughts Ultimately, I think this newsletter can deliver a lot more value if I share a lot less about me and a lot more about you! Please apply to participate in an interview so I can celebrate you in this space! |
Inspiring entrepreneurs and career changers to build work and life around their energy, authenticity and values.
What's the first thing "green light" makes you think of? Is it that song by Lorde? Is it playing "Red Light, Green Light" as a child? (Or, watching the famous sequence in Squid Game?) If you've worked in the Learning and Development space, is the GreenLight learning management system (now called Rival Learn)? (If so, let's swap stories, haha) Or, is it the online status indicator on Slack, having your productivity measured by how much you stay green and Slacktive instead of by your results,...
Life is a grand adventure and a chance to write an exciting and memorable story uniquely our own. You might know that in my story, I have been somewhat of an explorer charting my own path. Maybe that's your story, too! Did you know that part of my story includes being a game designer? I've designed all kinds of events and experiences, but games are among my favorite kinds of experiences to create. Playfulness is something that comes naturally to us when we're very young, and then life tends...
Remember, you have permission to do all of these things. Have you granted that permission to yourself? 1. Not have the answers. It's better to be honest, both with yourself and others, and say you don't know. Don't be like ChatGPT and just make something up. It's okay to sit with the discomfort of not knowing. If the answer can be easily found, commit to looking it up and responding later. It's also okay to delay an answer until you've had time to think about it. 2. Not be okay. We are...
