Happy Friday! I've been trying to publish my newsletter more consistently on Wednesdays lately, but perfection is overrated. If you're like me and many others, who sometimes sum up our weeks in terms of how much we accomplished on a to-do list, I'm here to share a friendly reminder that a to-do list well checked does not necessarily equal a life well-lived. Life happens in the messy, unplanned, serendipitous and spontaneous moments. The moments when you toss your planner in the air and say to yourself, well, I guess that isn't happening today, and you pivot (hopefully in pursuit of some sunshine or another everyday adventure). Schedules, to-do lists and productivity-maxxing (is that even a term)? are modern inventions in human history. A box for us to try to fit ourselves into, rather than a natural habitat for us to make our own. It's Friday, and it's possible you won't get everything on your to-do list done. And that's okay. Instead, what memories are you making? What moments are you savoring? How are you being kind to your mind, body and spirit? If we are going to think about to-dos for a moment, are there a few you could address that would make your future life easier? Celebrate getting those out of way and bask in the mental space it clears up. Bid farewell to the many tasks you thought you had to do but turned out to be inconsequential. Is your list too long? Is overwhelm and overwork in the way of you feeling overjoyed? Having trouble figuring out where to focus your attention to make the most impact in your life? I might be able to help. Enjoy the weekend! (You don't need to add that to your to-do list) |
